Choosing a profession can be difficult. You want to wake up every day excited about going into work. It’s so important that your job allows you to express your best assets. When going into college, I knew that I wanted to work in a field that allowed me to express my creativity. I like to think outside of the box and I wanted to work somewhere that would allow me to do that.
After the first few weeks of my freshman year I had decided that public relations was a career path I wanted to pursue, however at the time I didn’t realize how much room there was for creativity in PR.
Last summer I had the privilege of running the social media for a small non-profit called The Pediatric Cancer Foundation. As I began that internship I realized that in the digital sphere you are able to create so much of your own content. Over the course of the summer I created a social media campaign in the hopes of gaining more donors in order to raise funds for kids with pediatric cancer. With a goal and target audience in mind, I was able to express my creativity while aiding this nonprofit.
This summer I have the privilege of interning for The Pollack PR Marketing Group, a boutique PR firm in NYC. I already have been able to sit in on brainstorms for our clients and have had the chance to suggest my ideas. In the PR field you have to promote your client to the best of your ability in order to stand out amongst other brands. That is where creativity comes into play. You want your client to rise to the top and this happens by coming up with a creative PR strategy.
I am so happy to have found the PR field because I wake up every day excited to go to my internship and I hope to feel that way every day for the rest of my career. One of the best aspects of the public relations field is having the ability to use your strengths and implement them in order to gain success for your client. I am lucky enough to have found a career that I am so passionate about.
